WINDOW ROCK, Ariz. – On May 30, To’Nanees’Dizi Council Delegate Otto Tso and Chapter Officials met with Navajo Nation President Buu Nygren with an urgent request.

They requested the President to assist with relocating a high-frequency antenna located less than two miles from downtown to free the 85 acres of land it resides in hopes of building a sports complex to provide options for healthy living.

One of the proposed solutions to tackle persistent challenges faced by the community, such as teen pregnancy, dropout rates, mental health concerns, and substance abuse, is the establishment of an outdoor sports complex.

The Old Airport Mesa has been identified as the most suitable location due to its accessibility and existing use for community physical activities like running, walking, biking, and space for more significant community events.

On behalf of the Tuba City Chapter, President Nygren sent a memorandum and is awaiting a response, calling upon the U.S. Department of Transportation and the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration to relocate the VOR, which has operated under an expired lease since 2011.

The Navajo Nation Department of Transportation and the Navajo Land Department, are in collaboration on the project. The estimated timeframe to complete the project, should it move forward, is estimated within 3 to 5 years.
