Today, Mr. Darwin Mitchell works his last day before retirement. I want to recognize and thank Mr. Mitchell for an extraordinary 40 years of service to the Navajo Nation.
For four decades, Darwin has dedicated his life to improving the health and well-being of our people. Through his work with the Special Diabetes Program and countless community wellness initiatives, he has helped empower Navajo families to live healthier lives, encouraged our elders to stay active, and inspired generations of youth to make positive choices for their future.
What stands out most about Darwin’s career is not just the number of years he served, but the number of lives he touched.
Whether organizing community events, mentoring young people, or encouraging others to never give up, he always led with compassion, humility, and a genuine commitment to helping others. His message of perseverance, family, faith, and self-care has left a lasting mark across the Navajo Nation.
Many of the young people who participated in his programs over the years are now adults raising families of their own, and they carry forward the lessons he taught them about health, responsibility, and community. The seeds he planted through his work will continue to grow for generations to come.
On behalf of the Navajo Nation, I extend my deepest gratitude to Darwin for his decades of service, leadership, and sacrifice. We thank him for the countless miles traveled, the lives impacted, and the unwavering dedication he brought to his work every day.
As he enters retirement, we wish him good health, happiness, and many blessings. While his official service may be coming to a close, the legacy he leaves behind will continue to strengthen our Nation for years to come.
Ahéhee’, Darwin, for 40 years of service to the Navajo people. Your work has made a difference, and our Nation is stronger because of your commitment.
