On March 8, 2026, the Navajo Nation proudly joins communities around the world in recognizing “International Women’s Day” and honoring the invaluable contributions of women across our Nation.

This year’s theme, “Give To Gain,” reminds us that when we invest in women through opportunity, support, and meaningful action, our families, communities, and future generations are made stronger.

Within Diné culture, women hold a sacred and essential place in our way of life. As a traditionally matrilineal society, the Navajo people recognize women as central to our homes, our identity, and the continuation of our values.

Navajo women have long served as the foundation of our families and communities — as mothers, daughters, aunts, grandmothers, sisters, caregivers, educators, leaders, professionals, advocates, and knowledge keepers. In every role, they carry strength, wisdom, compassion, and resilience that continue to guide our people and shape the future of the Navajo Nation.

On this International Women’s Day, we express our deepest gratitude to the women who serve our Nation in countless ways, both seen and unseen. We celebrate their leadership, honor their sacrifices, and recognize the lasting impact they make in their homes, workplaces, communities, and across generations.

By continuing to uplift and support women and girls, we uphold the values of our people and invest in a stronger, healthier, and brighter future for all.
