FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. — The City of Flagstaff and Flagstaff Police Department issued a joint update on March 26 regarding potential U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) activity in the area.

According to the release, ICE is currently exploring options for office space within the city to station agents. At this time, no location has been confirmed, no lease or purchase has been finalized, and no request has been made to use City of Flagstaff property. City officials have requested additional information from the federal government regarding any plans.

The Coconino County Sheriff’s Office has indicated that any potential presence would likely involve office space only, and no further details have been confirmed.

With a large Diné population in the Flagstaff area, community awareness is critical.

The Navajo Nation Human Rights Commission encourages all relatives living off the Navajo Nation to stay informed and prepared:

  • Carry photo identification at all times
  • A REAL ID or U.S. Passport is recommended
  • State-issued IDs can still help verify identity
  • ICE does NOT recognize Certificates of Indian Blood (CIB) or non-photo IDs
