Following the parade, First Lady Jasmine Blackwater-Nygren and I danced alongside our elders during the Song and Dance event at Red Rock Park on Saturday, August 9.

The Church Rock community was filled with traditional songs, dancing and rodeo events where locals and visitors came together for the 103rd Gallup Inter-tribal Indian Ceremonial.

It amazed me to see our youth, young adults and elders dancing together in unity. Moments like these bring a sense of community, strength and beauty to this celebration.

Our songs were sang collectively as a group, our footsteps and rhythm touched the ground and together, we celebrated in harmony.

After Song and Dance, First Lady and I watched the the talented cowboys and cowgirls participate during the rodeo events at the main arena. Events such as team roping, barrel racing and bull riding were performed as our youth continue to keep rodeo culture alive.

I also had the opportunity to meet with fellow community members after the rodeo, where I listened to some of their concerns and excitement. I want to remind you all that I see you and hear you, let us continue to move forward and persevere what the future will bring.

Lastly, with the ongoing heat levels, make sure to stay hydrated and protect yourself from the sun. Stay safe!
