WINDOW ROCK, Ariz. – Navajo Nation President Buu Nygren signed multiple Memorandums of Agreement on June 16, 2026, to advance more than $10.5 million in federally funded water, wastewater, sanitation, and housing-related infrastructure projects across the Navajo Nation.

The agreements bring together the Navajo Nation, Indian Health Service (IHS), Navajo Engineering and Construction Authority (NECA), and Navajo Tribal Utility Authority (NTUA) to deliver critical infrastructure improvements that will expand access to safe and reliable water services for Navajo families.

Projects funded through the agreements include the Burnham Northwest Waterline Extension I, Winslow Distribution and Sewer Facility Replacement Legacy Project, Shiprock District Arizona and Utah Housing Projects, Tuba City Service Unit Scattered Housing Project, Winslow Scattered Cisterns Project, Shiprock Failed Drainfield System Projects, and the Chilchinbeto-White Mesa Booster Upgrade.

Together, the projects represent approximately $10.54 million in federal funding provided through the Indian Health Service and the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA), also known as the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. The funding will support planning, engineering, design, construction, waterline extensions, system upgrades, housing connections, wastewater improvements, cistern replacements, and other essential infrastructure projects.

The agreements establish partnerships among IHS, NECA, NTUA, and the Navajo Nation to coordinate project development, construction, and long-term operation and maintenance of completed systems.

Expanding access to clean water remains one of the Navajo Nation’s highest infrastructure priorities. These investments will help improve public health, support housing development, strengthen community infrastructure, and increase access to reliable water and sanitation services for Navajo families across the Nation.

By leveraging federal partnerships and funding opportunities, the Navajo Nation continues making progress on critical infrastructure projects that provide lasting benefits for communities and future generations.
