Protecting Diné land, water, and natural resources remains a priority under President Buu Nygren’s Administration. Through environmental cleanup efforts, water infrastructure investments, conservation initiatives, and stronger protections for Navajo resources, meaningful progress continues to be made across the Navajo Nation.

Among the Administration’s accomplishments:

Completed asbestos removal at the former Navajo Forest Products Industries site, addressing a long-standing environmental hazard.
Secured placement of the Lukachukai Mountain Mining District on the federal Superfund National Priorities List, opening the door for federal cleanup resources in a mining-impacted area.
Signed legislation requiring agreements before uranium is transported across the Navajo Nation, strengthening protections for communities and the environment.
Repaired 754 windmills in 2024 and 600 additional windmills and livestock water facilities in 2025, helping provide reliable water access for families, ranchers, and livestock operations.
Constructed 26 miles of water pipeline in 2024 while advancing major water projects, including new wells, water treatment facilities, wastewater treatment plants, and waterline extensions serving Navajo communities.
Connected 258 homes to water and wastewater systems through partnerships with the Navajo Engineering and Construction Authority and Indian Health Service.
Secured participation in the California Air Resources Board Cap-and-Trade Program, creating opportunities to generate revenue through forest carbon credits while supporting sustainable management of Navajo forests.
Supported the Diné Native Plants Program, which produced 19,700 native plants and conducted 80 seed collection events to preserve traditional plants, medicines, and ecological knowledge.

These accomplishments reflect a commitment to protecting the Navajo Nation’s natural resources, improving access to clean water, restoring impacted lands, and ensuring future generations inherit a healthier and more resilient environment.
