Yá’át’ééh,
Today, I want to take a moment to honor and recognize all fathers. Happy Father’s Day!
I have deep respect for the men who rise early, work long days, and carry the responsibilities of providing for their families while remaining connected to our land, our culture, and our values. Your dedication often goes unseen, but its impact is felt every day in the lives of your children, your families, and your communities.
A father’s strength is not measured only by the work of his hands, but by the love in his heart. I think of the hard, rough hands shaped by years of labor—hands that build homes, tend livestock, haul water, work the land, and support loved ones. Yet behind those strong hands are soft hearts filled with compassion, understanding, patience, and unwavering love for your children.
I also think of the soft hands that carry a sleeping child, offer comfort during difficult times, and guide the next generation with wisdom and encouragement. Those moments of care and tenderness are just as powerful as any act of strength.
As fathers, grandfathers, stepfathers, uncles, and father figures, you help preserve our Diné values, language, and traditions. You teach by example, showing our young people the importance of respect, responsibility, humility, and service to others.
Today, I offer my sincere gratitude to each of you. Thank you for your sacrifices, your guidance, and your love. Thank you for carrying your families, your communities, and our culture forward for future generations.
May you be blessed on this Father’s Day and every day. Ahéhee’.
