The 103rd Gallup Inter-Tribal Indian Ceremonial Night Parade is always a beautiful experience — from the young royalty to all the inter-tribal dance groups, who bring blessings and cultural pride.

There is so much to enjoy about this ceremonial — from parades, royalty competitions, and rodeos to song and dance, art exhibits, vendor markets, and regional trade exchanges.

This event is one of my favorite summer events. “Protected By Nature” is this year’s theme, emphasizing the sacred bond between Indigenous cultures and the environment. It highlights the importance of respecting, preserving, and nurturing Mother Earth for future generations. The theme also celebrates efforts to protect natural resources through sustainable practices rooted in traditional knowledge.

Congratulations to Leanne Lee for curating this year’s official poster, which visually tells the story of the theme and the event. Learning about the artist behind the iconic poster is always a highlight.

Last night, I watched with fellow relatives the various royalty and dance groups from a spot outside the historic El Morro Theatre. Thank you to Gallup Mayor Louie Bonaguidi and his wife for inviting us to join them outside the historic El Morro Theatre.

As relatives near and far, we streamed the parade for those unable to attend in person. I look forward to walking in the parade Saturday morning with the Nygren Administration.
