Navajo Nation President Buu Nygren and Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham meet on infrastructure spending, uranium cleanup, renewable energy

SANTA FE, N.M. — Navajo Nation President Buu Nygren discussed collaboration with New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham and Lieutenant Governor Howie Morales on Friday after a day of meetings with New Mexico state agency and legislative leadership.

During their meeting, President Nygren discussed opportunities for capital outlay spending for infrastructure in Navajo communities, partnerships on environmental cleanup of uranium within tribal land and development of renewable energy resources.

Both Governor Lujan Grisham and I know it takes creative solutions to meet the long-standing needs for Navajo communities in New Mexico, President Nygren said.

“We are focused on cleaning up uranium contamination, developing infrastructure and ensuring the Navajo Nation’s energy sovereignty in these discussions,” President Nygren said. “The Navajo Nation appreciates Governor Lujan Grisham’s commitment to moving forward with us on these partnerships.”

Navajo Nation Council Speaker Crystalyne Curley also joined the meeting.
