WINDOW ROCK — The Navajo Nation Department of Diné Education (DODE) and Central Consolidated School District (CCSD) have formalized a collaborative partnership aimed at strengthening Diné language and cultural education while expanding opportunities for students, families, and communities through culturally relevant learning.

“This partnership reflects our commitment to ensuring that Diné students receive an education that honors who they are, where they come from, and the values that have sustained our people for generations,” said President Buu Nygren. “By strengthening Diné language and cultural instruction, supporting families, and building stronger relationships between schools and communities, we are investing in the future of our Nation while preserving the identity that makes us Diné.”

The agreement establishes a framework for cooperation between DODE and CCSD to support the preservation and promotion of Diné language, culture, history, and values within educational settings. Through the partnership, both organizations will work together to develop educational processes, curriculum resources, professional development opportunities, and community engagement initiatives that reflect the unique cultural identity of Diné students.

The Memorandum of Agreement, signed by President Nygren, emphasizes the importance of sovereignty, mutual respect, and collaboration in advancing educational outcomes. The partnership also seeks to strengthen parental involvement and encourage greater participation from community leaders, educators, and families in supporting student achievement.

Under the agreement, DODE will provide guidance on Diné language and cultural standards, best practices, and educator training. CCSD will support implementation efforts through parental engagement programs, community outreach, and the continued integration of Navajo language and cultural instruction within schools. Both entities will collaborate on curriculum development, assessments, and information sharing to support student learning and educational success.

To ensure accountability and continuous improvement, designated representatives from both organizations will meet regularly to review progress, evaluate implementation efforts, and identify opportunities for enhancement. Classroom observations, training activities, and community engagement initiatives will help measure the effectiveness of the partnership.

By working together, the Navajo Nation Department of Diné Education and Central Consolidated School District are helping ensure that future generations remain connected to Diné language, culture, and identity while preparing for lifelong academic and personal success.
