WINDOW ROCK, Ariz. — Navajo Nation President Buu Nygren formally signed letters supporting and authorizing Alamo Navajo School Board, Inc., Canoncito Band of Navajos Health Care, Inc., and To’Hajiilee Community School Board to serve as their own fiscal agents for capital improvement initiatives within their respective communities.
The action followed an earlier meeting held on February 6, 2026, in Santa Fe, N.M. where President Nygren met with leadership from the Alamo Navajo School Board, local chapter officials, and representatives from the To’Hajiilee Health System of the Canoncito Band of Navajos to discuss infrastructure priorities and project coordination. New Mexico State Representative Michelle Pauline Abeyta was also present during the discussions.
By affirming each entity’s authority to act in this capacity, the Navajo Nation recognizes their demonstrated financial integrity, administrative competence, and operational readiness to manage and implement projects addressing critical infrastructure, education, and healthcare priorities. This action reinforces local governance while ensuring that all initiatives are carried out with accountability, transparency, and fiscal responsibility.
“Our communities know their needs best” said President Nygren. “Supporting the Alamo Navajo School Board, Canoncito Band of Navajos Health Care, and the To’Hajiilee Community School Board in this role strengthens local decision-making and ensures that investments in infrastructure, education, and health services reach the people they are meant to serve.”
President Nygren emphasized that these authorizations strengthen intergovernmental collaboration with the State of New Mexico and promote greater efficiency in advancing shared public infrastructure goals. The signings reflect the Administration’s continued commitment to empowering Navajo communities to lead, manage, and deliver meaningful improvements that directly benefit their residents.
