WINSLOW, Ariz. – Navajo Nation President Buu Nygren joined basketball fans in Winslow for a pivotal Copper Bracket semifinal matchup as the Tuba City Lady Warriors played the Pima Lady Roughriders for a trip to the state championship.

From the opening moments, the Lady Warriors set the tone. They came out focused and energized, establishing control early and maintaining momentum throughout the contest. While Pima created scoring opportunities, Tuba City’s consistency on both ends of the court allowed them to maintain the lead from start to finish.

Their teamwork, discipline, and confidence carried them through all four quarters, securing a 73–51 victory and earning their place in the state championship game.

“Games like this show what preparation and unity can accomplish,” he shared. “When our young people trust each other and stay committed to their goals, they can rise to any challenge.”

He also emphasized that moments like these bring communities together and contribute to healing—creating spaces where families gather, young leaders shine, and pride in Navajo youth is strengthened.

President Nygren praised the determination of the Tuba City Lady Warriors and commended both teams for their effort and sportsmanship in such an important postseason matchup.
