BREADSPRINGS, N.M. — Across the Nation, Memorial Day also carries deep meaning for families, many of whom have proudly served in every branch of the military for generations. It is a day of remembrance, unity, prayer, and community.

Today President Nygren attended the Jacobs Custom Buckers Memorial Day Bullarama in Breadsprings, New Mexico, where families, veterans, rodeo athletes, and community members gathered for a day filled with competition, culture, and remembrance.

“Memorial Day reminds us to honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country and our people,” President Nygren said. “Here on the Navajo Nation, military service runs deep in our families and communities. It was meaningful to spend the day with veterans, families, and young people while also celebrating our rodeo traditions and community spirit.”

The event featured open bull riding, junior bull riding, ladies steer riding, calf riding, wooly riding, cowboy protection matches, and bull team competitions, drawing riders and spectators from throughout the region. Throughout the afternoon, the arena reflected the spirit of Navajo rodeo traditions while also honoring the significance of Memorial Day weekend.

President Nygren greeted attendees, visited with riders and families, and recognized the veterans and military families in attendance.

President Nygren also emphasized the importance of events like the Bullarama in bringing communities together in a positive way and creating opportunities for youth involvement through rodeo and western sports.

As the crowd cheered from the stands and riders competed in the arena, the Memorial Day Bullarama served as both a celebration of Navajo rodeo culture and a heartfelt reminder of the courage, sacrifice, and enduring legacy of those who served.
