WINDOW ROCK, Ariz. – It was a spectacular night of Indigenous glamour and celebration for the Navajo Nation as Navajo Highways brought home two Emmy® Awards at the Pacific Southwest Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences on Saturday, June 27, 2026. The FNX Original children’s series earned top honors for Best Informational/Instructional Content and Best Set Design, showcasing the power of authentic Diné stories to educate, inspire, and reach audiences nationwide.
Created by filmmaker Pete Sands, Navajo Highways introduces young audiences to the Navajo language, culture, and traditional values through engaging puppetry, storytelling, and vibrant characters. Following the journey of Sadie as she reconnects with her Diné heritage, the series helps children learn Diné Bizaad while strengthening cultural identity and family connections.
“These Emmy Awards are a proud moment for the Navajo Nation and a powerful reminder that our language, stories, and traditions belong on the national stage,” said Navajo Nation President Buu Nygren. “This recognition reflects the incredible talent of our Indigenous storytellers and the importance of preserving Diné language and culture for future generations through innovative educational opportunities.”
The award for Best Set Design recognizes the extraordinary work of Sahar Khadjenour, whose imaginative vision brought the world of Mitten Creek to life through cultural detail, vibrant craftsmanship, and immersive environments that enhance learning while celebrating Navajo identity and tradition.
Produced with support from the Navajo Nation Department of Diné Education and the New Mexico Public Education Department, the series represents a significant investment in language revitalization and culturally relevant education. Executive producers include Daryl Ross Begay, Linda L. Miller, and Pete Sands, with co-producers Lori Tapahonso and Harrison Reynolds.
All six episodes of Season 1 are currently available to stream for free on the FNX app, making the award-winning series accessible to families, educators, and communities nationwide.
