FARMINGTON, N.M. — Navajo Nation President Buu Nygren stood beneath a new beam of light at the newly constructed Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints ‘Farmington New Mexico Temple.’
The temple opened its doors to the public at 9 a.m. on July 17 and will remain open for tours through Aug. 2, 2025.
Before the official opening, President Nygren toured the sacred grounds this morning with LDS Elders Larry Ecko Hawk, Steve Bangerter, Jose L. Alanso, and Navajo Nation Attorney General Heather Clah.
President Nygren, who has previously visited the LDS headquarters in Salt Lake City, has worked with LDS Church Leaders, including President Russell M. Nelson, on the importance of regional interfaith relationships.
“This temple represents more than a place of worship, it reflects the values of faith, family, and community,” President Nygren said. “As leaders, we have a responsibility to bridge understanding and show respect for all beliefs and cultures. That’s how we build unity.”
The ‘Farmingtion New Mexico Temple’ will reduce travel times for Navajo members who previously traveled long distances to temples in Albuquerque or Mesa.
