The Navajo Nation has made significant investments in public safety infrastructure and services aimed at protecting communities, improving emergency response capabilities, and supporting families across the reservation.
Among the administration’s major accomplishments is the development of the $19 million Shiprock Incident Command Center, a critical investment designed to enhance emergency coordination and disaster response capabilities. The facility will strengthen emergency preparedness and improve the Nation’s ability to respond to natural disasters, public safety incidents, and other emergencies.
Expanded E911 emergency response services have also strengthened communications systems across the Navajo Nation, improving the ability of first responders to provide timely assistance and enhancing coordination among emergency personnel during critical situations.
The administration has invested $7.1 million in domestic violence shelters, expanding access to safe housing, support services, and resources for survivors and families in need. These investments help ensure that individuals facing crisis situations have access to protection, advocacy, and long-term support.
In addition, the Navajo Nation made the largest Missing and Murdered Indigenous Relatives (MMIR) funding allocation in Navajo history, reinforcing efforts to address a crisis that has affected Indigenous communities for generations. The funding supports increased awareness, investigative resources, victim services, and community engagement initiatives.
New detention facilities and police field offices have also been established, increasing the capacity of law enforcement agencies to serve communities throughout the Navajo Nation and improving access to public safety services in rural areas.
Under the administration of President Buu Nygren, public safety has remained a top priority, resulting in substantial investments that strengthen emergency response systems, law enforcement capabilities, victim services, and community protection efforts across the Navajo Nation.
Together, these accomplishments reflect an ongoing commitment to building safer communities, supporting families, and ensuring Navajo citizens have greater access to the resources and protections they deserve.
