WASHINGTON, D.C. — On Thursday, Navajo Nation President Buu Nygren and 25th Navajo Nation Council Delegate Germaine Simonson hosted the 2025 Udall Native American Congressional interns at the Nation Washington Office to share their personal journeys and encourage the Native youth to pursue their education and career goals in support of their Tribes.  President Nygren and Delegate Simonson were also joined by Acting Director of the Indian Health Service Ben Smith (Navajo).

The Udall Foundation awards scholarships, fellowships, and internships for study in fields related to the environment and to American Indians and Alaska Natives in fields related to health care and tribal public policy.  The 2025 Udall Native American Congressional Internship cohort features representation from 9 Tribes and 10 universities, including three Navajo students!

The Navajo Nation extends its congratulations to each of this year’s interns, and we look forward to welcoming our interns home upon completion of their academic journeys.
