Navajo Nation President Buu Nygren joins Arizona Governor Katie Hobbs for annual Indian Nations Legislative Day

PHOENIX — Navajo Nation President Buu Nygren and First Lady Jasmine Blackwater-Nygren were joined by Interim Speaker Otto Tso and the 25th Navajo Nation Council as special guests of newly-elected Governor Katie Hobbs for the 28th Annual Indian Nations and Tribes Legislative Day at the Arizona State Capitol.

On his first day as the youngest Navajo Nation President, Dr. Nygren advocated for the basic needs of tribal communities across the Southwest and to strengthen the sovereignty of Arizona’s 22 native nations.

Priorities discussed included the need for clean water access, infrastructure development, allocating resources for the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Relatives movement, construction of new roads and rehabilitation centers, and investing in elderly senior homes.

The President and First Lady were welcomed by several tribal leaders including White Mountain Apache Chairman Kasey Velasquez, San Carlos Apache Chairman Terry Rambler, and many others.
