WINDOW ROCK — Known for his quiet reserve and strong sense of honor, Koltyn Begay was celebrated by coaches, family, and teammates as he signed with Arizona Christian University on a football scholarship, representing Window Rock High’s values of pride, honor, tradition, and respect.
On the evening of March 31, Koltyn Begay, a standout football player from Window Rock High, marked a significant milestone in his academic and athletic journey.
Behind the moment was months of hard work in the offseason—early morning runs, long hours in the weight room, studying film, and ongoing conversations with coaches about reaching the next level. Begay’s commitment to growth helped shape him into a leader on and off the field, earning the respect of his peers and mentors alike.
Begay distinguished himself during his senior season through exceptional performance and leadership, recording over 1,185 combined rushing, passing, and receiving yards, along with 10 touchdowns and 55 tackles.
Family members shared words of encouragement, emphasizing the importance of balancing athletics with academics and staying grounded in his values as he takes this next step. Their support, alongside that of his coaches and teammates, played a vital role in his journey.
In a letter from President Nygren congratulating Koltyn on his achievement, he stated: “Koltyn’s journey is an inspiration to young athletes and your successes is a testament to the support of your family, teammates, coaches and community.”
President Nygren added, “Through hard work, respect, and perseverance, Kolton is showing what is possible. His discipline and determination reflects the strength of the Navajo people. The Navajo Nation is proud of him and looks forward to all he will accomplish as he begins his collegiate athletic career.”
Begay will play Safety for Arizona Christian University.
