WINDOW ROCK — Navajo Nation President Buu Nygren proudly recognizes Landon Watts, a recent graduate of Rehoboth Christian High School, for his outstanding achievements in music and for earning the opportunity to represent the Navajo Nation through the WorldStrides Music Honors Program in London, England this month.

Landon’s journey is a powerful example of perseverance, determination, and the limitless potential of Navajo youth. Through years of hard work and dedication to his craft, he earned a prestigious music scholarship to Hope College in Holland, Michigan, where he will continue his education and pursue his passion for music.

Selected through a competitive audition process, Landon will travel to London from June 19–27 to perform alongside talented student musicians from around the world. As he takes the international stage, he will proudly represent his family, his community, and the Navajo Nation.

“Landon’s accomplishments are a testament to the power of hard work, resilience, and believing in your dreams,” said President Nygren. “He has remained committed to his goals, overcome challenges, and continued striving for excellence. We are incredibly proud to see him represent the Navajo Nation on a global stage.”

Music has been a part of Landon’s life from an early age. After losing his father at just five years old, music became a source of healing, strength, and purpose. What began with a simple piano keyboard and singing the National Anthem at local events grew into a passion that would help shape his future.

He began participating in Rehoboth Christian School’s music program in the fourth grade and remained dedicated to it through his senior year. Throughout that journey, Landon continually challenged himself to grow. Although he was not initially selected for the New Mexico All-State Choir, he refused to give up. His perseverance paid off when he earned selection in eighth grade and continued to achieve that honor every year through high school. His accomplishments include recognition in the New Mexico All-State Choir, New Mexico All-State Jazz Choir, and helping Rehoboth Christian High School earn Second Runner-Up honors in the New Mexico Music Educators Association State Choir competition for the 3A division.

Behind every step of his journey has been the unwavering support of his family. His accomplishments reflect not only his dedication, but also the encouragement and belief of those who have supported him throughout the years. His mother watched him devote countless hours to practicing, performing, and pursuing his goals, celebrating each milestone while encouraging him through challenges. Through triumphs and setbacks alike, Landon’s family has remained behind him in everything he does, helping him stay focused on his dreams and his future.

Grounded in the Diné teaching of Tʼáá hwóʼ ají tʼéego, Landon has demonstrated that success comes through personal effort, perseverance, and determination. Those values have guided him throughout his journey and continue to inspire his goals for the future.

This fall, Landon will begin attending Hope College on a music scholarship he worked diligently to earn. While several colleges expressed interest in him, he chose the institution that best aligned with his aspirations. After completing his education degree, he hopes to return home to the Navajo Nation and establish music programs that inspire and empower future generations of Diné youth.

“Landon’s desire to return home and use his talents to serve our people speaks volumes about his character,” President Nygren said. “He understands that success is not only about personal achievement, but also about giving back to your community and creating opportunities for others. He is already making our Nation proud.”

As Landon prepares to perform alongside talented students from across the world, the Navajo Nation celebrates his achievements and wishes him continued success. His story serves as a reminder that our youth possess extraordinary talent and potential, and that with perseverance, family support, and a commitment to their goals, they can accomplish remarkable things.

Congratulations, Landon Watts. We are proud of you and look forward to all that you will accomplish as you represent the Navajo Nation and inspire future generations.
