CHILCHINBETO –
Earlier this month, in partnership with the Navajo Division of Children and Family Services (DCFS), we visited Chilchinbeto Community School to deliver more Diné Bizaad books. This initiative is rooted in our shared belief that literacy strengthens our families and communities, building a healthier future for our children.
During our visit, students and staff shared their concerns and hopes, calling on the Navajo Nation Council and my administration to continue advocating for a new school. I briefed the principal, staff, parents, and students—from kindergarten to 8th grade—on our ongoing discussions with the Bureau of Indian Education (BIE) regarding much-needed school replacements across the Navajo Nation.
Chilchinbeto Community School faces serious infrastructure issues, including aging pipes that cause persistent odors, drainage problems in teacher housing, a playground that has been condemned for over a decade, and the presence of asbestos in school buildings. These are unacceptable conditions for our students and educators.
Despite these challenges, our students remain dedicated to learning, demonstrating the resilience that defines our people. As President, I am committed to ensuring their voices are heard. The BIE has reported approximately $1 billion in funding for new school construction across the Navajo Nation, and we will continue to push for Chilchinbeto to be prioritized.
We are actively working with congressional leaders, Trump Administration, the BIE, and the Navajo Nation Washington Office to secure a place for Chilchinbeto Community School in the BIE’s New School Replacement Initiative. Our children deserve safe, modern learning environments—and we will not stop advocating until they have them.
