This memorandum serves as an official notification that all Navajo Nation Executive Branch employees, permanent and temporary, are granted One Hour of Administrative Leave from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m., on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, in observance of a total lunar eclipse also referred to as a red moon. The total lunar eclipse will be observable from the Navajo Nation starting around 4:04 am and concluding less than one hour later. We will start to see what is called the penumbral eclipse at 1:44 am and that will end six hours later – around 7:44 am.

Exempted from this administrative leave is OPVP Executive Staff, Division Directors, and Deputy Division Directors. Essential service workers, first responders, Division of Transportation employees, and other emergency personnel will continue to follow their set schedules, unless arrangements are made with an immediate supervisor.

The purpose of this leave is to honor our traditional beliefs. I ask all of us to respect each other during this time.
