ROCK SPRINGS, N.M. — As the Navajo Nation continues its housing initiatives, families across the Nation are experiencing new beginnings through key turnover ceremonies led by the Community Housing and Infrastructure Department (CHID).

On Jan. 15, 2026, a key turnover ceremony was held in the Rock Springs Community, where a Navajo family received the keys to their new three-bedroom home.

The homeowner first learned about the housing opportunity nearly two years ago through a KGAK radio announcement and was the final applicant to submit an application at the chapter level. Throughout the process, the family remained diligent, consistently following up, submitting required documentation, and coordinating with chapter officials and CHID staff to move the application forward.

Like many families across the Navajo Nation, the household faced ongoing housing challenges. As part of the standard housing review process, chapter officials and CHID staff visited the family’s previous home to assess conditions and better understand their needs. The new home now provides the stability, comfort, and peace of mind that every family deserves.

During the ceremony, an inspirational message from Navajo Nation President Buu Nygren was shared with the family, reaffirming his strong support for housing initiatives that uplift families and strengthen communities. His message emphasized that safe housing is the foundation for health, education, and opportunity, and that every Navajo family deserves a place to call home. The message also reflected the Administration’s continued commitment to standing alongside families as they build their futures.

The family expressed heartfelt gratitude for the President’s words and support, sharing how meaningful it was to feel seen and supported during this milestone moment.

CHID staff were present to complete the key turnover and ensure the process was smooth and welcoming. The visit also provided time for encouragement, reflection, and reaffirmation of the Administration’s commitment to housing development across the Nation.

Looking ahead, the Navajo Nation continues to advance its housing efforts. The Housing Improvement Program will begin accepting new applications in February. In the meantime, DCD staff will continue delivering homes to previously selected applicants as work progresses agency by agency.

Homes have already been delivered in the Northern and Eastern Agencies. Following completion in the Fort Defiance Agency, deliveries will begin in the Chinle Agency. Additionally, the Navajo-Hopi Land Commission Office is coordinating with DCD to support home deliveries in the Western Agency.

Each key turnover ceremony represents more than the delivery of a home. It reflects the Navajo Nation’s ongoing commitment to addressing housing instability and combating homelessness, while strengthening communities and ensuring families have safe, stable places to thrive.
