ALBUQUERQUE – Navajo Nation President Buu Nygren joined the community at the Girls APS Metro Tournament on January 9, cheering on the Kirtland Lady Broncos as they faced the Hobbs Lady Eagles at Del Norte High School in Albuquerque.
More than just a game, the tournament highlighted the resilience, dedication, and teamwork of our young athletes—qualities that reflect the strength and spirit of Navajo youth both on and off the court.
Despite a narrow loss to the Hobbs Lady Eagles, 68–63, the Lady Broncos showcased determination and returned the next day to claim 3rd place with a 62–45 victory over the Rio Rancho Lady Rams on January 10.
“Basketball is more than a game for our Navajo youth—it’s a way to build confidence, discipline, and pride in who we are,” said President Nygren. “Watching these student-athletes give their all reminds us that our future is bright when our young people are supported and encouraged to chase their dreams.”
President Nygren continues to encourage families and communities to support student-athletes throughout the Navajo Nation, celebrating their hard work, growth, and commitment to excellence.
