President Nygren Celebrates Opening of Tuba City Senior Center

TUBA CITY, Ariz. — Navajo Nation President Buu Nygren joined community leaders, elders, and partners to celebrate the grand opening of the new Tuba City Senior Center, marking the completion of a long-awaited project rooted in respect for elders and sustained collaboration.

The 5,060-square-foot facility was made possible through combined support from the Síhasin Fund and the Tuba City Chapter. Construction began on February 19, 2024, with Keyah Construction, Inc. serving as general contractor. Designed to meet growing demand for senior services, the center includes a meeting hall, administrative offices, kitchen and dining space, interior assembly area, and ADA-accessible parking and site improvements to ensure safe, inclusive access for all.

During the event on January 7, President Nygren emphasized that the center represents more than a building. It reflects a shared commitment to honoring elders and delivering practical services that strengthen families and communities. The President previously toured the facility on October 16, 2025.

The Tuba City opening joins a series of senior center milestones across the Navajo Nation, including recent openings in Ganado, Tselani/Cottonwood, Nazlini, and the re-opening of Tohatchi. In November 2024, President Nygren signed legislation dedicating $184 million for renovations and new construction at 85 senior centers, reinforcing a Nation-wide focus on accessibility, safety, and quality services.

The administration has also expanded transportation capacity for elders. In April 2025, 25 new Jeep Wagoneers were deployed to senior centers across all agencies, improving access to meals, medical appointments, and essential services.

“By working together, we are ensuring our elders are supported with dignity, care, and safe spaces where they can gather, be heard, and thrive,” President Nygren shared.
