WINDOW ROCK, Ariz. — Navajo Nation President Buu Nygren met with Diwozhii Bii’Tó (Greasewood Springs) Chapter leadership and Division Directors on December 29 to address housing, infrastructure, and other critical community priorities, with a focus on accountability, coordination, and next steps.
During the meeting, chapter leaders and Division Directors reviewed the status of ongoing projects, including home repair and housing initiatives, water infrastructure, road improvements, and needed upgrades to chapter facilities. Leaders raised concerns about delays impacting housing work orders, compliance requirements affecting road projects, and necessary repairs to the chapter building, including foundation, roofing, and heating and cooling systems.
Housing discussions highlighted both progress and ongoing challenges. While several homes have been completed, others remain pending future work orders. Officials discussed timelines, applicant prioritization, and the importance of ensuring eligible families are not left behind. President Nygren emphasized the need for clear and consistent communication so chapters can accurately update their communities, particularly during the winter months.
Water access and drought-related concerns were also a key focus. Chapter representatives identified several windmills in need of assessment and repair, along with related infrastructure such as water troughs and storage tanks. Leaders discussed coordinating written requests, site assessments, and potential funding pathways to address these needs efficiently.
Road projects were reviewed with discussion on compliance hurdles, redesign requirements, and the need to secure additional resources for future phases. President Nygren underscored the importance of aligning legislative action with projects that provide the greatest benefit to community members.
Also in attendance to address questions were Tom Platero, Director of the Division of Transportation; Candice Yazzie, Director of the Division of Community Development; Patrick Dalgai, Department Manager II; and Lisa Jymm, Director of the Navajo Nation Fiscal Recovery Fund Office.
The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to continued follow-up, coordination, and collaboration to move priority projects forward while keeping the Greasewood Springs community informed and engaged.
