RAMAH, N.M. — Navajo Nation President Buu Nygren joined community members, chapter leadership, and regional officials on December 23 for the reopening and dedication of the Ramah Navajo Chapter House, marking a meaningful moment of renewal for the Ramah Navajo community.
The celebration drew a strong turnout from local families, chapter staff, and leaders, reflecting the chapter house’s role as a central gathering place for community life.
Martha Garcia, President of the Ramah Navajo Chapter and a New Mexico State Representative, presided over the ceremony. She shared the history of the Ramah Navajo Chapter and the Ramah Navajo School Board, and expressed appreciation for President Nygren’s presence and continued support for the community.
As a guest speaker, President Nygren emphasized the importance of the newly renovated chapter house as a welcoming space for meetings, collaboration, and cultural connection. He noted that the facility will serve both residents and visitors as a place to come together, reflect, and plan for the future.
Also in attendance was guest speaker Josett Monette, Cabinet Secretary of the New Mexico Indian Affairs Department, who joined leaders in recognizing the significance of the chapter house to the Ramah Navajo people and its role in strengthening partnerships across the region.
The dedication ceremony included traditional blessings by a Navajo medicine man, along with prayers offered by local pastors, bringing together cultural and spiritual traditions to honor the space and its purpose.
Throughout the program, speakers emphasized unity, responsibility, and care for future generations, reminding attendees that the work done today helps strengthen the community for those who will come after. In this season of renewal, gratitude was shared for one another and for the hope ahead.
President Nygren extended his appreciation to the Ramah Navajo 638 staff, Ramah Navajo Chapter leadership, and the Ramah Navajo School Board for their dedication and hard work in restoring this important community space.
