TSÉ LICHII, N.M. — On October 30, Navajo Nation President Buu Nygren met with Red Rock Chapter leadership and community members to listen to local priorities and help move long-delayed projects toward construction.
President Nygren thanked chapter officials, elders, and staff for “putting their heart, mind, body, and spirit” into serving the community, and said his Administration will continue partnering with chapters that are organized, proactive, and ready to build.
Community leaders outlined several key needs: removal of asbestos near the chapter campus, replacement of the aging senior center, support to regain chapter certification under the Local Governance Act, and better road maintenance for elders and dialysis patients.
Administration officials reported that the Navajo Nation now has an Environmental Remediation Fund, but chapters must submit the proper resolutions so cleanup dollars can be used at the local level. They also confirmed that Red Rock has $8 million identified for its senior center through a Community Senior Needs legislation, a Navajo Nation Council initiative that allocates funding to construct, renovate, and modernize senior centers across the Navajo Nation, and that the project is in Phase 3 pending site assessment and final approvals.
President Nygren urged the chapter to keep working with Delegate Lester Yazzie (Baahaali, Chilchiltah, Manuelito, Red Rock, Rock Springs, Tsayatoh) and other council leaders to help push those items through.
Transportation staff also shared a plan to increase miles of local road maintenance by coordinating with school, Community Health Representative (CHR), and elder routes, while Community Development staff encouraged the chapter to update its five-year plan so funding is not reverted.
President Nygren said meetings like this are how the Nation ensures local voices guide investments across the Navajo Nation.
