Here are the latest updates on the Navajo Nation’s flood response:

Current Conditions & Forecast:

A Flood Watch is in effect through late tonight. Expect heavy showers and thunderstorms, especially this afternoon through Saturday evening, which may cause flash flooding and runoff in washes and low crossings. Sunday should bring a break with mostly sunny and windy weather.

What’s Being Done:

The Navajo Department of Emergency Management (DEM) is monitoring flood-prone areas and has activated response protocols and is working with chapter houses and first responders. Road assessments are ongoing, and essential supplies are being staged for vulnerable chapters. Power and water utilities are being inspected for damage.

What You Can Do:

Avoid driving through flooded roads or low-water crossings. Stay alert to local weather alerts and chapter communications. Check on neighbors, especially elders or those needing medical assistance. If your chapter needs support, contact your local chapter leadership immediately.

We appreciate your patience and cooperation. By working together, we can reduce risk and support each other. Stay safe and stay informed.

More updates are also provided by Navajo Nation Emergency Medical Service, Navajo Nation Police Department, Navajo Nation Emergency Management, Navajo D.O.T, and Navajo Nation Fire Department’s Facebook pages.

NOTE: For families affected by the flooding, please contact your local chapter house first. If they can’t assist, the chapter will submit a 213 Form to DEM.

**Chapters are the designated Navajo community authorities to request emergency assistance from Navajo DEM.**
