The Navajo Nation Division of Transportation (NDOT), Navajo Department of Emergency Management (NDEM) and other Navajo departments have been actively preparing for rainstorms forecasted across the region this weekend. They are taking proactive steps in coordinating with Chapters to protect the Navajo people and their communities.
The Nation’s response plan includes:
- Monitoring weather conditions closely with NDEM or monitor live forecast at www.zoom.earth
- Emergency communication outreach and updates will be available on KTTN 660 AM and 101.5 FM radio, NDOT, NDEM, NNPD and President Nygren’s socials, and chapter announcements throughout the weekend.
- Rapid assessment teams ready to evaluate storm impacts.
- Chapters are a vital link in this response. NDEM can help with sandbags, checking on elders and families in flood-prone areas, and providing timely updates to residents.
As a Reminder, Here Are Safety Tips:
- Never drive through flooded roads.
- Move livestock and equipment to higher ground.
- Stay updated via local weather alerts and emergency channels.
The public is encouraged to prepare by checking emergency supplies, securing outdoor items, and planning with family members.
“We are with our people every step of the way,” said Navajo Nation President Buu Nygren. “As rainstorms move in this weekend, our top priority is protecting lives, homes, and livestock.”
