WINDOW ROCK — The Navajo Department of Emergency Management (DEM) reported Bowl Canyon Fire remains at approximately 100 acres with minimal fire activity and 10% containment as of this morning.

According to the U.S. Forest Management Office, the fire’s southern edge has diminished, allowing BIA Fire crews to begin mop-up operations in that area.

The fire’s northern perimeter remains active and is today’s top priority.

Crews are currently constructing a containment line to prevent further spread. Air and ground resources, including air tankers, water tenders, Type 6 engines, and initial attack crews, remain on scene, supported by coordination between Navajo Police Department Lt. Lynch, EMS, and Community Health Representatives.

“The safety of our people and protection of the land is our focus,” said Navajo Nation President Buu Nygren. “We’re grateful for the quick response and continued teamwork on the ground.”

As a precaution, the Asááyi Road remains closed in both directions, and the Asaayi Lake area is closed to the public until further notice. Navajo Resource Enforcement and Window Rock District officers continue to assist with traffic control.

NTUA began disconnecting power lines near the fire overnight, including at the residence of an elderly man awaiting pickup from family in Crystal, New Mexico.

Air Attack, tankers, and a helicopter are enroute to reinforce containment efforts. DEM urges the public to stay clear of the area for the safety of fire crews and emergency personnel.
