NAVAJO MOUNTAIN, Utah—As of June 15 at 4 p.m., the dubbed Bridge-Creek wildfire on the northwest side of Náátsísáán has burned 260 acres.

BIA Navajo Region Fire Management, Kayenta Fire Department, Navajo Division of Public Safety (NDPS) and Navajo Division of Emergency Management continue to prioritize containing the fire with water drops as the location of fire is in a steep area.

NDPS Director, Micheal Henderson, said two aircrafts are dropping water on the blaze from Lake Powell. Henderson said they are most concerned about the fire on the northwest edge as it is the most active point.

In an update by BIA Navajo Region Fire Management, the agency advised local community members to avoid the area and any access roads up to the fire.

Navajo Nation President Buu Nygren remains in contact with the team on the ground. He sent a community representative from his office to the Navajo Mountain Chapter house Friday evening, when the fire began and continues to aid in volunteer work and community concerns.

“I’m praying for the community of Navajo Mountain as well as our firefighters,” said President Nygren. “The cause is suspected to be from lightning.”

Navajo Police Department shared on social media; The Utah Navajo Health Service is on-call for community members with respiratory issues.
