WINDOW ROCK, Ariz. – The Navajo Nation Department of Public Service today announced the arrest of the suspect in the triple shooting with one fatality that occurred in Cameron, Ariz., on Monday.
Derick Myron of Tuba City was arrested at 12:41 a.m. on May 2, 2024. He was found at a Tuba City residence by the Navajo Police Department, Navajo Department of Criminal Investigation and the FBI.
Myron was taken into federal custody without incident, said Michael Anderson, executive director of the Navajo Division of Public Safety. He is scheduled to make an initial appearance in federal court in Flagstaff, Ariz., later today.
Myron is alleged to have shot and killed a resident of Cameron, Ariz., shot and wounded two others, and then fled the scene on April 29, 2024, in a domestic violence incident. Navajo police have not released the names of the victims.
A federal arrest warrant for murder and other charges was issued on May 1, 2024, and executed by the Navajo Police Department Tuba City District, Navajo Department of Criminal Investigations-Tuba City, and the FBI.
Navajo Nation President Buu Nygren today expressed his appreciation to cooperating law enforcement agencies for their successful efforts to keep Navajo citizen safe through the apprehension of Myron.
“I’m proud of our Navajo police department’s response and extremely grateful for the immediate and brave cooperation we received from Coconino County Sheriff’s Office, Arizona DPS and the FBI,” he said. “The safety and wellbeing of our Navajo citizens is and remains our highest priority.”
Director Anderson said the joint investigation among Navajo police, Coconino County Sheriff’s Office and the FBI led to the apprehension of the suspect and resolution to a violent incident.
“The most critical matter was the ability of different jurisdictions to work together and to use resources to apprehend this suspect,” Anderson said.
Anderson credited the arrest to officers and sergeants of the Tuba City Navajo Police District, Navajo Department of Criminal Investigations Department-Tuba City, NPD Special Weapons and Tactics Unit, NPD K-9 Unit, FBI, Coconino County Sheriff’s Dept. and the Arizona Dept. of Public Safety.
