WINDOW ROCK, Ariz. – Tonight will be that last show of the PRCA Home of the Navajo Rodeo promising an exciting night of competition.
On the first night of the rodeo, crowds saw bulls getting fussy and competitors ancy and amped.
After a night of competition, the second night the bulls and broncs stomped their way around the arena. The excitement and energy of competition was apparent as fans filled the arena.
Rocker Steiner ranked fifth globally for bareback riding and two NFR qualifications, took a moment shortly after his ride last night to walk across the arena to share some time with President Nygren.
President Nygren welcomed Steiner to the reservation, and Steiner said it definitely won’t be his last time visiting the Nation.
“Our cowboys and cowgirls are getting recognition for their hard work and dedication to rodeo, but our nation is at the forefront of the rodeo scene,” said President Nygren. “The land, our traditions, and way of life have always been tied to ranching and farming, and now the biggest rodeo trail is on the Navajo Nation.”
Throughout the night, President Nygren watched from the walkway below the grandstands and his skybox, cheering on each win and each effort to take home first.
The crowd screamed and shouted for their very own Navajo first-place winner, Faith Holyan, who took first-place title in the breakaway.
“There is so much pride and honor in these competitions,” said President Nygren. “Every contestant knows hard work—a fantastic show here on Navajo. We know our Díné have always been strong, and we have produced fierce athletes for generations in rodeo. I am proud of all of our cowboys and cowgirls. It is an honor to see you compete at these levels right in our own backyard.”
