PROCLAMATION
DECLARING MAY 4 TO 10, 2025
Navajo Nation Correction Officers Week
WHEREAS, the Navajo People honor and recognize the contributions and sacrifices of all Correctional Officers and Correctional Personnel who serve under the Division of Public Safety, Department of Corrections across the Navajo Nation; and
WHEREAS, Corrections Officers and Correctional Employees go above and beyond the call of duty to ensure that our Navajo People are protected, and our communities are safe; and
WHEREAS, United States President Ronald Reagan signed a Proclamation 5187 in 1984, designating the first full week of May as National Corrections Officers and Employees Week; and
WHEREAS, Correctional Officers and Corrections Employees are essential to the safety and stability of our Navajo communities, upholding justice with integrity, professionalism, and courage; and
WHEREAS, these dedicated men and women who serve on the front lines of public safety, managing secure facilities, guiding rehabilitation efforts, and maintaining order in challenging environments; and
WHEREAS, Corrections Officers demonstrate strength, discipline, and compassion each day, often without recognition, while carrying out one of the society’s most demanding public service responsibilities; and
WHEREAS, the week of May 4-10, 2025, is designated to honor and thank Corrections Officers for their service, sacrifice, and unwavering commitment to safety and justice; and
WHEREAS, the Navajo Nation honors all Corrections Officers and Correctional Employees who are serving the Navajo Nation as the Wheels of Justice.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, DR. BUU NYGREN, President of the Navajo Nation, do hereby proclaim May 4 to 10, 2025, as Navajo Nation Corrections Officers Week, and encourage all citizens to join in recognizing the contributions of these vital public servants.
