PROCLAMATION
DECLARING MAY 8-12, 2023, AS 2023 NAVAJO NATION NURSES WEEK
WHEREAS, The Navajo Nation recognizes and appreciates the unwavering dedication and compassion of its nurses, who provide essential healthcare services to the residents of the Navajo Nation; and,
WHEREAS, The National Nurses Week is celebrated annually from May 6 to May 12 in the United States to honor the contributions and commitment of nurses to the health and well-being of individuals and communities; and
WHEREAS, The Navajo Nation health system, consisting of tribally operated healthcare centers, Indian Health Service facilities, and other partner organizations, has been working tirelessly to provide quality healthcare services to Navajo Nation residents, addressing unique health challenges faced by the community; and
WHEREAS, Nurses within the Navajo Nation health system play a critical role in the delivery of culturally sensitive care, promoting preventive measures, and ensuring the well-being of patients and their families; and
WHEREAS, The Navajo Nation acknowledges the importance of supporting, educating, and empowering its nurses, who have shown resilience and dedication, especially in combating public health emergencies, such as the COVID-19 pandemic; and
WHEREAS, The 2023 Navajo Nation Nurses Week provides an opportunity for the Navajo Nation and its residents to express gratitude and appreciation for the invaluable services rendered by nurses, who are often the first point of contact in the healthcare journey of individuals and families;
NOW THEREFORE, I, Dr. Buu Nygren, President of the Navajo Nation, do hereby proclaim May 8-12, 2023, as the 2023 Navajo Nation Nurses Week, and encourage all residents of the Navajo Nation to join in recognizing and honoring the vital role of Azee’ Neiikáhí within our community and their selfless dedication to the health and well-being of the Navajo Nation.
