Proclamation

IN HONOR AND RECOGNITION OF U.S. WOMEN’S ARMY CORPS VETERAN LILLIAN LINCHEZE LUJAN, PROCLAIMING MARCH 10, 2023, AS ‘LILLIAN LUJAN DAY’

WHEREAS, the Navajo Nationr ecognizesthe military service of Lillian Lincheze Lujan in the United States Women’s Army Corps from January1943 until her honorable discharge in December1945; and

WHEREAS, Lillian Lujan attained the rank of Sergeant E-5 and served in the Detachment 3809th Service Command Unit; and

WHEREAS, SGT Lujan was decorated with the Good Conduct Medal, Victory Ribbon, American Theater Campaign Medal, and Woman Army Corps Ribbon; and

WHEREAS, SGT Lujan passed peacefully on March 6, 2023, at the age of 104 years old; and

WHEREAS, the Navajo Nation recognizes SGT Lujan as a member of the Navajo Nation from Coalmine, Arizona; and

WHEREAS, March is known nationally as Women’s History Month; and

WHEREAS, the Navajo Nation celebrates the life of distinction and service SGT Lujan led among the Navajo People.

NOW THEREFORE, I, BUU NYGREN, President of the Navajo Nation, do hereby proclaim that March 10, 2023, shall be known as ‘Lillian Lujan Day’ across the Navajo Nation to honor the life of SGT Lujan.

SO ORDERED THIS 9th DAY OF MARCH IN THE YEAR 2023.
