PROCLAMATION
IN HONOR AND RECOGNITION OF FORMER DELEGATE OF THE NAVAJO NATION COUNCIL AND PRESIDENT OF THE NAVAJO NATION BEN SHELLY
WHEREAS, the Navajo Nation is saddened by the passing of Honorable Ben Shelly; and
WHEREAS, Honorable Ben Shelly served the Navajo People as Council Delegate of the Navajo Nation from 1991 to 2007; and
WHEREAS, Honorable Ben Shelly served as Vice President of the Navajo Nation from 2007 to 2011; and
WHEREAS, Honorable Ben Shelly served as President of the Navajo Nation from 2011 to 2015; and
WHEREAS, the Navajo Nation recognizes Honorable Ben Shelly’s contributions to the sovereignty of the Navajo Nation, including the creation of Navajo Transitional Energy Company; and
WHEREAS, the Navajo Nation recognizes Honorable Ben Shelly for his dedicated spirit of leadership in his time in public service and in private enterprise; and
WHEREAS, the Navajo Nation offers its deepest regards and condolences to the family of Honorable Ben Shelly during this period of grief.
NOW THEREFORE, I, BUU NYGREN, President of the Navajo Nation, do hereby proclaim that all flags on the Navajo Nation shall be flown at half-staff starting at on March 22, 2023, until sunset on March 28, 2023, to honor the memory and service of the Honorable Ben Shelly.
