PROCLAMATION
IN HONOR AND REMEMBRANCE OF NAVAJO NATION POLICE DEPARTMENT SERGEANT KARA TILDEN
WHEREAS, Navajo Police Department Sergeant Kara Tilden, Badge #1061, was a dedicated servant of the Navajo people, having served 27 years in law enforcement, the Navajo Nation celebrates Sergeant Tilden’s commitment to the protection, justice, wellness and the continuation of our core values within our communities; and
WHEREAS, Sergeant Tilden exemplified the spirit of guardianship that all our greatest heroes embody; She served as a shield for our communities; She dedicated her life to ensure the safety and well-being of the people she loved; and
WHEREAS, In her honor, we recognize all Navajo police officers who selflessly devote themselves to protect and safeguard our people; Her example of leadership and mentorship continues in the lives of the recruits and officers she helped throughout her life; and
WHEREAS, Sergeant Tilden demonstrated a commitment to the principles of fairness, equality and accountability, which are values Navajo Police keep; She upheld the laws of our land; She ensured justice was served and the rights of our people were protected; and
WHEREAS, As a mentor and advocate, she encouraged young officers to embrace healthy lives; Central to the faithful execution of her oath is the trust she created, upheld and sustained in our communities; Sergeant Tilden’s role as a mentor and her commitment to support young officers exemplified the strong connections we as Navajos hold with each other as Diné; and
WHEREAS, We honor Sergeant Tilden for a life of service to the Navajo people; We honor her for her wisdom and guidance to our community and the next generation of leaders.
NOW THEREFORE, I, DR. BUU NYGREN, President of the Navajo Nation, in remembrance and honor of Navajo Police Department Sergeant Kara Tilden, do hereby order that flags across the Navajo Nation shall be flown at half-staff on the day of her interment, Friday, December 8, 2023.
