PROCLAMATION
RECOGNIZING THE FIRST WEEK OF APRIL 2023 AS THE WEEK OF THE YOUNG CHILD ACROSS THE NAVAJO NATION
Whereas, Navajo children are recognized as sacred elements of the Navajo home and are the future of the great Navajo Nation; and
Whereas, the Navajo Nation has established the development and education of young Navajo children as a priority through programs supporting their positive growth; and
Whereas, the Navajo Nation and other local organizations, in conjunction with the National Association for the Education of Young Children, celebrate the Week of the Young Child this year from April 1 to April 7; and
Whereas, these organizations are working to improve early learning opportunities, including early literacy programs, that can provide a foundation of learning for children on the Navajo Nation; and
Whereas, teachers, parents, role-models and others who make a difference in the lives of young children on the Navajo Nation deserve thanks and recognition; and
Whereas, public policies that support early learning for all young children are crucial to young children’s futures;
And Whereas, the Navajo Nation encourages all citizens to work to make a good investment in early childhood education and development on the Navajo Nation.
NOW THEREFORE, I, BUU NYGREN, President of the Navajo Nation, do hereby proclaim that the first week of April 2023 shall be known as the Week of the Young Child across the Navajo Nation.
