PAGE, Ariz. – On Saturday night, beaded caps glistened, and feathers fluttered in the rows of black caps and gowns at the Page High School football field during their 2024 graduation on Saturday evening.
“As you move forward, I encourage you to pursue education passionately. Learn as much as you can. Bring your knowledge back to our communities,” said President Nygren. “Use your skills to improve the lives of our Diné and all tribal nations because we are all joined together. Whatever journey you take, know that you are more than capable.”
Navajo Nation President Nygren signed an Executive Order on May 17 to allow regalia to be worn at graduation ceremonies for Navajo students on or off the Navajo boundaries.
Page High School’s Native American population is 67%. President Nygren commended the school’s faculty, who consist of non-Native American people but have been committed to embracing the school’s diversity.
He also acknowledged the non-native students for embracing the culture of Díné students. He encouraged them to share their identity so we all learn and appreciate the beauty that makes us different as we live and coincide.
“Go forward with confidence, purpose, and the knowledge that you are part of the greater story,” said President Nygren. “Think about how your education can help build a better future for all of us. To everyone here, we are all children of the Creator. Embrace the unity that we all share – as friends, neighbors, and as families.”
