WINDOW ROCK, Ariz. – 140 students walked across the stage with their diplomas and were greeted with big smiles and handshakes from Navajo Nation President Buu Nygren.

On Fri., May 24, in the Window Rock High School Gymnasium, graduates, families, faculty, and President Nygren gathered to celebrate the students’ hard work.

“Moments like these deserve celebration,” said President Nygren. “All of our little ones made it this far and as President, it’s refreshing to see our young ones be celebrated for their educational successes.”

Like many students across the country, their teachers become people they can confide in, and because of that, the 2024 graduates gifted faculty members who pushed them throughout their high school careers. Faculty were given hugs and handshakes along with a Yeti bag.

The class of 2024 graduates is unique for having had to begin their high school in a virtual environment. Despite that trial, the Fighting Scout graduates reminisced on overcoming and conquering obstacles together.

“There’s strength in perseverance,” said President Nygren. “That’s what the class of 2024 has proven. Through all the tough times like the global shutdown, they still laughed and succeeded together.”

President Nygren walked through the gymnasium, congratulating not only the students on their diplomas but also the parents and family members who carried their graduates through several challenging years.

“Shine on today, tomorrow, and beyond,” said the President. “This whole event center is looking upon you. Let that energy fuel as you move forward and do great things for yourself and your fellow Diné rooting for you. You’ve already made us proud. Once a Scout, always a Scout.”
