BOULDER, Colo. – Navajo Nation President Buu Nygren today met privately with Colorado Gov. Jared Polis before they both spoke at the 44th Annual Colorado Law Conference on Natural Resources at the University of Colorado here.

President Nygren briefed the governor on the historic news of the Navajo Nation, the Hopi Tribe and the San Juan Southern Paiute Tribe reaching a settlement on their Arizona water rights in the Northeastern Arizona Indian Water Rights Settlement Agreement.

Gov. Polis served 10 years in Congress representing Colorado’s 2nd congressional district. The district comprises the north-central part of the state. It includes Boulder, Fort Collins and parts of the Rocky Mountains. It encompasses Larimer, Grand, Broomfield, Clear Creek, Gilpin, Summit, Eagle, Jefferson, Park, and Boulder counties.

As a congressman, Gov. Polis became familiar with the Navajo Nation’s longstanding battles to obtain water rights.

President Nygren invited Gov. Polis to visit the Navajo Nation’s Wolf Springs Ranch. The ranch is located in Westcliffe in Custer County. The ranch runs 300 head of bison and is located right next Mount Blanco, or Sisnaajiníin the Navajo language, one of the Navajo people’s four sacred mountains.

Wolf Springs Ranch is an historic property known for its picturesque landscapes and extensive acreage. It surrounded by the Sangre de Cristo Mountains.

The two leaders discussed economic ventures in Colorado and how they benefit the Navajo Nation.
