WINDOW ROCK, Ariz. – Navajo Nation President Buu Nygren returned from a three-day trip to the Democratic National Convention with a long list of contacts that will help advance the Navajo Nation’s interests.

“I really took advantage of every hour I had out there,” President Nygren said. “I tried to tell people, ‘Let’s build a strong Navajo Nation.’ When the Navajo Nation is strong, the four states that we sit in, are strong.”

President Nygren attended the DNC as a delegate of the Arizona Democratic Party, a privilege that comes with being Navajo Nation president. He was among other PLEO delegates – Party Leader or Elected Officials.

“To be a delegate, was an honor. It’s going to be exciting to see what happens over the next several months.”

As President of the Navajo Nation, he said, it’s necessary to work with officials on both sides of the political aisle.

“Just look at the Arizona water rights settlement. It’s introduced on the House side by Republicans, and then on the Senate side it’s introduced by Democrats.”

President Nygren said his days began at 6:30 a.m. and lasted until midnight. Time spent in the convention center was shoulder-to-shoulder. He attended many breakfasts and receptions to meet President Biden’s Cabinet members, federal officials, senators, members of congress and countless state and tribal officials.
