Navajo Nation President Buu Nygren caps week of Washington leadership meetings with Farmington, El Dorado girls basketball game attendance

FARMINGTON, N.M. — Navajo Nation President Buu Nygren concluded his week of discussions with national leaders at Friday night’s Farmington Lady Scorpions versus Eldorado Lady Eagles high school girls basketball game alongside First Lady Jasmine Blackwater-Nygren.

“Both the First Lady and I saw each team put up some great plays tonight,” President Nygren said. “We are proud of our hard-working and dedicated student athletes for pushing themselves and their teammates—it’s always good to see their sportsmanship on the court.”

The president and first lady greeted the teams following the Lady Scorpion’s win over the Lady Eagles 83-to-59 at the Scorpion Arena in Farmington.

This week, the president was in Washington, D.C., in his first visit to the U.S. Capitol. While there, he completed a packed schedule of face-to-face leadership meetings with top Federal officials and members of Congress.

With significant discussion on the Navajo Nation’s priorities in Washington completed, President Nygren was committed to making the trip back to the southwest in time for the game. The president and first lady gave their encouragement to all the players to keep working towards strong, positive goals.

Announcers at the game said the Farmington Lady Scorpions will face the Piedra Vista Lady Panthers next week.
