PHOENIX, Ariz. — On Thurs., May 9, President Nygren watched the Navajo Nation’s students walk across the Gammage Theater stage at the American Indian Convocation for the ASU Spring 2024 graduation.
The convocation began with a student drum, prayer, and welcome song sung by a Diné student.
Tribal leaders from across Arizona were also present at the convocation, with some honoring the students with Pendleton stoles that were handmade for all of the graduates.
The graduating students represented over 60 tribal nations across the world.
Cheers erupted as students crossed the stage. Many families shouted words of praise and encouragement to their loved ones.
“Keep pushing yourself,” said President Nygren. “I am proud of how hard our Navajo students have worked.”
As the graduates exited the theater, President Nygren greeted each student and their families, congratulating them on their accomplishments.
“It’s encouraging to see our Díné graduates walk across the stage to get their degrees,” said President Nygren. “They worked hard, with many long-sleepless nights. These students persevered like many of our ancestors did. Congratulations to all of the graduates and families.”
