WINDOW ROCK, Ariz. – Over 20-chapter officials from the Central Agency met with Navajo Nation President Buu Nygren to voice needs in the communities of Blue Gap/Tachee, Many Farms, Nazlini, Cottonwood/Tselani, and Low Mountain.
Navajo Nation Council Delegate Crystalyne Curley asked President Nygren for help and guidance, and brought the officials who voiced their concerns on roads, water lines, cell towers, C-stores, laundromats, trash removal, funding for Senior Centers, and many more requests.
“Thank you, President Nygren, for making the water rights settlement a success,” said Many Farms Chapter President, Katherine Arthur. “We need water for everything.”
Each chapter spoke candidly with President Nygren, communicating their lengthily lists of needs. Several officials stated they have exhausted years of pleas with prior administrations with no movement.
Delegate Curley reported that over $521 million went to General funds with no APRA deadlines, no federal audits. Delegate Curley explained the funds will be available to each chapter region so they can begin to develop these projects.
“I will start having these types of meetings with each of the delegate and their chapters,” said President Nygren. “The chapter delegate is the main point of contact who have the duty to create legislations for their communities. The main thing I want to say is I am happy you have shared your priorities so we can work together to address these needs. Roads are one of my priorities this year, last year was homes. Funding from ARPA should soon be available for the chapters to take actions on some of these projects.“
