SHIPROCK, N.M. – Northwestern High School promoted 19 students in their 2024 graduation, with each earning their diplomas while balancing a pandemic, a new normal of virtual education, and the usual woes of high school, all combined with overwhelming support and love from their families and community as these 19 students look forward to a new journey ahead.

“It’s always an honor to be invited to graduations of this size,” said President Nygren. “It is a close-knit family and a strong community supporting all of you.”

Teary-eyed, the senior class and senate president, Mikaylee Castillo, shared memories of trials and laughs with her peers, sparking laughter and joyful tears as they looked back at the bonds they formed and the journey they endured together.

Many years after Northwest’s graduation, President Nygren is the first leader to share and give words of encouragement to this community.

He recognized their bonds as a community, sources of support, healthy outlets, and an overwhelming supply of encouragement.

The outpouring of support the graduates were shown by their families and community was prevalent.

“It took a lot of discipline, homework, and mental challenge to make it through high school, and today we celebrate you,” said President Nygren. “Wherever you may go, you will be successful with what you all have shown with your heart and self-determined approach.”
