The Navajo Nation Division of Community continues to advance housing improvements and new construction projects for Navajo families through the Housing Improvement Program (HIP), CHID, and Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) programs.
Of the $93.7 million allocated to the Housing Improvement Program, more than $86.3 million has been obligated across 78 work orders. These investments have advanced 1,322 homes into renovation construction and completed 596 bathroom additions for families across all 24 Delegate Regions. More than 75% of program work orders have been completed, with the program continuing toward full expenditure before the September 30, 2026, contract deadline.
“The progress made through our housing programs reflects the dedication of the employees who work every day to provide services to Navajo families,” said President Nygren. “A safe and reliable home is essential for our families, and I appreciate the hard work of the CHID, HIP, and CDBG teams who continue to deliver results across the Navajo Nation.”
CHID continues to make progress on Work Order #5, with 138 homes built, 69 homes in storage, 75 foundation pads completed, 69 homes delivered, 68 homes set, and 38 homes fully turned over to families. Remaining work, including skirting, gutters, stairs, interior completion, wood stoves, and meter pedestals, continues to advance, with invoice processing current.
The Division of Community Development recognizes the employees whose dedication supports the success of these programs, including Housing Improvement Program Manager Marilyn Barney; Technicians Autumn John and Theresa Boyd; Planner/Estimator Emmet Tsosie; Senior Electrician Joseph Charley; and Construction Supervisors William Nelson and Irvin Shorty.
Additional recognition is extended to CHID Department Manager Patrick Dalgai; Administrative Assistant Jerrilyn Owens; Senior Programs and Project Specialist Alfreida Nez; Construction Supervisor Jeffrey Goodluck; and Carpenters Tyler Willatto and Shaquille Spencer.
The Division of Community Development also recognizes CDBG staff, including Field Supervisor Jerome Meyers and Senior Office Specialist Saraphine Curley, for their work supporting successful project completion.
The combined efforts of the Housing Improvement Program, Community Housing and Infrastructure Department, and Community Development Block Grant program continue to provide housing improvements and construction services for Navajo families across the Nation.
